2 weeks old

My sweet baby boy is two weeks old today! We went back to the pediatrician this morning to check on his weight gain since his first appointment last week. While has has gained some weight, he is not back up to his birth weight, so we are going to keep monitoring him and decide next week if we need to supplement the breastfeeding with formula. I am trying my best to feed him, but I am worried that my milk supply may not be enough to keep him satisfied. It breaks my heart that he is may not be getting enough to eat, but I am hopeful that we are making progress and will continue to do so.

We have learned so much about baby Frank in the last two weeks, and I wanted to share some of his cute traits and different things we have noticed.

  • he looks JUST like his Daddy did as a baby. He definitely has his skin coloring, nose, and lips. Hopefully he has his mommy's brains :)
  • he makes a really funny face where he wrinkles his forehead and when he does this we call him Mr. Magoo
  • We are still trying to figure out what we will call him. My parents have been calling him Frankie, and Frank and I usually call him our little buddy. We will just have to see what sticks!
  • At his doctor's appointment, the doctor commented on how strong and alert he is. He is 100% healthy and we are so thankful for that!
  • He frequently sleeps in a really funny position with his arms up by his head and his legs crossed and pulled up towards his bottom. The doctor said that this is probably how he was positioned in the womb and is his "comfort position" now. He also always puts his hands in his face, which can make feeding him difficult! He was scratching his face, so I made him start wearing little mittens. He hates them, but they are really cute!
  • He can already lift his head up to look at us when we put him on his tummy. He has had really strong neck muscles since he was born.
  • He frequently sneezes several times in a row--definitely takes after his Daddy on this one! Hopefully he will not have Daddy's alergies.
  • He has figured out that it is fun to pee on Mommy, Daddy, and himself when we are changing his diaper. He also thinks it is fun to poop or pee immediately after we change him and especially right after we change his outfit.
  • he loves his Daddy and always calms down when Daddy holds or rocks him when he is fussy.
We are having so much fun getting to know our son, and we are slowly getting used to the new sleep schedule. Frank is not on a regular sleeping pattern yet, and some nights he will sleep in 3-4 hour shifts, waking up only to eat and have a diaper change, but other nights he will want to stay up for a few hours in the middle of the night before falling asleep. Those nights are rough, but we are working on it.
